It was founded in 2013 as Department of Computer Science and received its first students in September of the same year. In 2019 it was renamed as Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications. Each academic year, the Department receives about 190-200 undergraduate students, including transfers and special categories as well as 25-35 new graduate students.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Since its foundation, the Department&#8217;s ultimate goal has been to promote the scientific and technological fields of Informatics and Telecommunications. Its vision is realized through teaching and research activities that prepare scientists endowed with all the necessary moral and technological skills and qualifications, that will allow them to efficiently support the design and implementation of Informatics and Telecommunications projects, participate with success in postgraduate programs as well as to monitor the developments of these rapidly-evolving scientific fields.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">At the same time, the students have the option to enroll in management, entrepreneurship and teaching courses, in order to gain valuable knowledge required in the business market. In addition, the Department offers the following capabilities:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha;\">\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Attending Doctoral Studies leading to the acquisition of a Doctoral Diploma (PhD).<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"left\">Conducting Postdoctoral Research.\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/streamer.uth.gr\/vidstore\/vod\/public\/events\/2020-07-02_CST_PISTOPOIHSH_2020.mp4\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" role=\"link\">Let&#8217;s take a look&#8230;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>This text provides a description of a video and has been designed to be accessible to screen reader users.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b>Department of Informatics and Telecommunications<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The video begins with a panoramic description of the city of Lamia. The Castle of Lamia is mentioned, located on elevated ground and serving as a landmark of the area.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>A description follows of the external sign of the University of Thessaly, located in the northern part of the city. The sign belongs to Building Complex A and reads:<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cUniversity of Thessaly \u2013 School of Sciences.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The external and internal areas of Building Complex A are then described.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>A description follows of the external and internal areas of Building Complex B, which is located in the southern part of the city.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The University Library is presented, along with a general panoramic description of the remaining university buildings.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b>Teaching Areas and Amphitheaters<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>In Building Complex A, Amphitheater One is described. This space is used for lectures and events. It is equipped with a dual video projection system.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>There is a dedicated control area, known as the Control Room. This area includes computers, sound systems, and lighting systems.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>In the same complex, Amphitheater Two is described, with a seating capacity of one hundred and ninety-six seats.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>In Building Complex B, Amphitheater One is described, with a seating capacity of two hundred and sixteen seats.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The Events Amphitheater is also presented, with a seating capacity of two hundred and forty seats.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b>Classrooms and Computer Laboratories<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>In Building Complex A, three classrooms are described. Each classroom has a capacity of one hundred and seventeen seats. The rooms are fully equipped for distance learning.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The equipment includes a computer, a video projector, an audio system, and a camera with a microphone.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>There is also one classroom with a capacity of forty seats.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The following computer laboratories are presented:<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Computer Laboratory One, with eighteen workstations.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Computer Laboratory Two, with twenty-two workstations.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Computer Laboratory Three, with twenty workstations.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b>Robotics Laboratory<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>In Building Complex B, the Robotics Laboratory is described. The laboratory includes seven workstations and can accommodate up to twenty-five individuals.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Its equipment includes:<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Two autonomous unmanned ground robotic vehicles.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>One autonomous unmanned underwater robotic vehicle.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>One testing tank, approximately six by three by one point two meters in size.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>One autonomous unmanned aerial robotic vehicle.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Three robotic arms.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>One laser detection sensor, known as LiDAR.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Additional equipment includes navigation sensor systems such as GPS and IMU, cameras, embedded computing systems, programmable logic controllers, supporting software, as well as desktop and laptop computers.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b>Administrative and Support Areas<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The offices of the Secretariat of the School of Sciences and the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Program are presented.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The offices of academic and technical staff are also described. These include seven offices for members of the Teaching and Research Staff, one office for Special Teaching Staff, and one office for Special Technical Staff.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>A server room is available, along with open workspace stations.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><b>Library and Study Areas<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The Library branch includes a reading room and ten computer workstations.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>There is also a teleconferencing room equipped with full audiovisual systems. The space is used for diploma thesis presentations, doctoral dissertation defenses, and other academic procedures.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The Central Library of the University holds approximately fifteen thousand book titles.
